CHIROPRACTIC CARE IS AFFORDABLE!
CURRENT RESEARCH - COST-EFFECTIVENESS
Stano, et. Al. "Relative Cost and Utilization of Chiropractic and Medical Episodes of Low Back Pain", Medical Care April 1996.
Miron Stano, Ph.D. recently published the results of what has been called "the most comprehensive and statistically rigorous effort to date." The results of the study found Chiropractic care for low back problems to be much less costly than medical care. To quote the study "After controlling for differences in patient and insurance characteristic the results indicated that the total insurance payments were substantially greater for the medical physician initiated care..."
"OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE OF CHIROPRACTIC COST-EFFECTIVENESS"
Manga, et.al. "The Effectiveness and Cost Effectiveness of Chiropractic Management of Low Back Pain", The Ontario Ministry of Health, August 1993
"There is an overwhelming body of evidence indicating that Chiropractic management Low Back Pain is more cost-effective than medical management....The lack of any convincing argument or evidence to the contrary must be noted...The evidence includes studies showing lower Chiropractic cost for the same diagnosis...."
ECONOMIST CONCLUDE CHIROPRACTIC CARE IS "BEST CARE SCENARIO"
Schifrin, "Mandated Health Insurance Coverage for Chiropractic Treatment: An Economic Assessment" (Clinical Professor of Preventative Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia), January 1992
"A fair interpretation of the evidence accumulated to date indicates that the impact of Chiropractic comes close to the "Best Care" scenario of low cost and high benefits...It is a cost effective provision in health insurance, and one that also serves the important goal of health care cost containment"
CHIROPRACTIC IS SAFE!
CURRENT RESEARCH - SAFETY
Chiropractic: Risk Perspective
"CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS SAFER THAN MEDICAL TREATMENT"
Manga, et. Al. "The effectiveness and Cost Effectiveness of Chiropractic Management of Low Back Pain" The Ontario Ministry of Health, August 1993
"There is no clinical or case controlled study that demonstrated or even implies that Chiropractic spinal adjustments are unsafe in the treatment of low back pain. Our study of the literature suggests that Chiropractic adjustments are safer than medical management of low back pain."
"NECK MANIPULATIONS HAVE LOW RISK"
Curtis, "Family Physicians, Chiropractors, and Low Back Pain", The Journal of Family Practice, November 1992This study in the Journal of Family Practice reported the incidence of vascular accidents (strokes) following cervical manipulation to be .001 percent or 1 in a million.
For comparison see the risks for other daily activities in the above graph
"FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RECOMMENDS SPINAL ADJUSTMENTS"
US Department of Health and Human Services, Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, "Clinical Practice Guideline - Acute Low Back Pain Problems in Adults" December 1994
The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research convened a 23 member multi-disciplined private sector panel to develop guidelines for the evaluation and treatment of Acute Back Pain. After intensive study and evaluation government researchers recommended spinal adjustments as a proven safe and effective form of initial treatment for acute low back pain.
Common treatments found to be INEFFECTIVE:
- Injections into back
- Ultrasound
- Traction
- Back
- Corsets
- Massage
- TENS Units
- Bed rest greater than 2 or 3 days
"CHIROPRACTIC OFFERS LONG TERM BENEFITS"
Meade, et. Al. "Low Back Pain of Mechanical Origin: Comparison of Chiropractic and Hospital out-Patient Treatment" Lancet-The British Medical Journal June 1990
Meade's study concluded: "Our trial showed that chiropractic is a very effective treatment, more effective than conventional hospital out-patient treatment for low back pain...the treatment given by Chiropractors results in very long term benefit."Meade, et. Al. "3 Year Follow-up On Chiropractic Care of Low Back Pain" Lancet-The British Medical Journal August 1995
This long term follow-up to his 1990 study found that the Chiropractic results remained superior three years after the original study. These findings dispute critics who have claimed that Chiropractic care offers only short-term benefits for low back pain patients.
