Leroy Moore,DC, senior vice president/provost of Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic since 1997, has been appointed senior vice president for institutional advancement. He will oversee the college's fund-raising, alumni affairs, annual fund and capital campaign efforts.
Dr. Moore has served Sherman College in many capacities since completing the doctor of chiropractic program as a member of the college's pioneer class of 1976. He was a highly valued partner with Sherman's founder, Dr. Thom Gelardi, DC, in building the college and guiding it through numerous challenges. He has played an active role in overseeing accreditation activities and guiding the academic program. He served as interim president during 1986, was dean of chiropractic health services and student services, and is a long-time member of the college's board of regents.
"I'm excited about working with our alumni and supporters to ensure the future of Sherman College. I believe the college has had a very positive impact on the chiropractic profession," Dr. Moore said.
"Dr. Moore possesses an impressive breadth of experience and extensive network of alumni and professional contacts and we are very fortunate to have an individual of his caliber supporting the college in this critical position," explained Dr. David Koch, the college's president. "As a practicing chiropractor for many years, as well as a faculty member, alumnus and senior administrator at the college, he thoroughly understands the needs and potential of Sherman College. He is also well acquainted with the many professional organizations, chiropractic foundations, and leaders of the profession who are key to our institutional advancement efforts."
"Dr. McAulay's unique educational background and skills as an experienced chiropractor, as well as a capable teacher and accomplished researcher in the field of organization theory, enable him to bring a unique perspective and expertise to our senior administration," Dr. Koch said.
A practicing chiropractor from 1985 to 1998, Dr. McAulay has held a number of instructional and administrative positions at Sherman. Before joining the college, he taught undergraduate and graduate management, human resource management and organizational communications courses at Temple University and Philadelphia University in Pennsylvania. He served on the faculty of Pennsylvania College of Straight Chiropractic as dean of postgraduate education, and as department chair and faculty senate chair. He serves on the board of the Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations, and is a member of Sherman's board of regents.
"Sherman College has developed what I believe is an outstanding chiropractic program," Dr. McAulay stated. "Our immediate plans call for further integrating technology throughout the curriculum, introducing a service component into the formal educational program, developing a strong professional development and success skills series, pursuing regional accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and continuing to build on our strong research agenda."
Dr. McAulay holds a PhD in organizational theory from Temple University, a DC from Penn Straight, and a bachelor of commerce from the University of Toronto. Widely published in a number of management and chiropractic journals, his research interests include professional and organizational commitment and conflict, total quality management and high-performance organizations.
Many relevant diagnostic signs are not performed deliberately by the examiner or by the patient at the examiner’s direction. They are observed as the patient reacts to their condition. Fortin’s finger sign, Minor’s sign, and Vanzetti’s sign are three examples of this principle.
On Feb. 1, 2024, two more legislators – John R. Carter (R-Texas) and Robert “Bob” Good (R-Va.) – co-sponsored the Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act of 2023, bringing the co-sponsor total to 155, two more than the total achieved over the entire two-year congressional cycle in which identical legislation last appeared (2021-22).
While working at the Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M., one of the primary care physicians stated that imaging every patient prior to receiving chiropractic was not medically necessary. It was at that point I reconsidered the need for the imaging of every patient to avoid malpractice.
