There are many good reasons to attend the 1992 International Conference on Spinal Manipulation (ICSM), May 15-17, in Chicago:
The conference will feature keynote speaker, James A. Harrell, deputy director of the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services addressing how chiropractic can be an active participant in a national initiative to improve the health of the American public.
George P. McAndrews, Esq., attorney for Wilk et al., will speak at the ICSM banquet. Mr. McAndrews will reflect on that historic case, and his perspectives on the evolution of health care. This special evening will culminate with the presentation of FCER's "Researcher of the Year" award.
Normand Danis, D.C., a chiropractor practitioner in Montreal and president of the Quebec Order of Chiropractors, will speak at the ICSM luncheon. Dr. Danis will explain how chiropractic positioned itself outside the health care system in Quebec: a message that should be heard and heeded by every chiropractor.
Research
Reports on some of the most important research in the field have established the ICSM as a leading research forum. The speakers, workshops, symposia, general sessions, and research papers at the 1992 ICSM, presented by the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER), will deal with the most important concerns confronting the chiropractic profession today. A new clinicians track has also been added this year, designed to help you learn first-hand how research affects you and your practice.
General Sessions
Two general sessions will bring researchers and practitioners together to examine two areas of importance to all in the chiropractic profession: managed health care and health promotion.
The first general session, "Perspectives in Managed Care," will address current concepts in managed care, chiropractic in a managed health care system, and the professional issues that confront the profession. The second general session will be devoted to "Chiropractic's Role in Health Promotion" and how the chiropractic profession can establish itself as the authority on health promotion and wellness.
Workshops
Two-day workshops will give you the opportunity to explore important issues in depth.
The clinicians' track will present "The Usefulness of Plain Film Radiography," a discussion of the limitations of standard plain film radiography, and an analysis of advanced and cost effective diagnostic imaging technology. Concurrent workshops will present: "Designing Care: Clinical Algorithm Development"; and "Design and Statistical Issues for Multiple Outcomes Clinical Research."
Symposia
Symposia offer the opportunity for discussion on a specific topic. This year's symposia will be broken into two sessions to give attendees an opportunity to select from six topics over two days.
The first clinicians' track offering will be "Treatment Outcomes Assessment for Chiropractic Care," a survey of current methods of assessing treatment outcomes and initiatives that will refine these methods. "Chiropractic's Academic Standards: Educational Outcomes and Institutional Research Capacity Assessment," and "Social and Historical Forces in the Evolution of Chiropractic Education and Research," will also be presented.
The clinicians' track session for the second symposia, "Approaches to the Development of Standards of Care in Chiropractic" will explore the complex issue of standards of care from both the private and federal perspectives. Other symposia offered at the same time will be, "The Clinical Efficacy of Spinal Manipulation: Analysis of FCER-Funded Randomized Clinical Trials," and "Research Dissemination: A Report from the Chiropractic Research Journal Editor's Council."

Many relevant diagnostic signs are not performed deliberately by the examiner or by the patient at the examiner’s direction. They are observed as the patient reacts to their condition. Fortin’s finger sign, Minor’s sign, and Vanzetti’s sign are three examples of this principle.
Spearheaded by burgeoning scientific and clinical research literature, psychedelics have reached a level of media coverage and popular interest that has not been seen for over half a century. By “psychedelics,” we are referring to the unique class of substances that includes psilocybin (the active compound found in so-called “magic mushrooms”), LSD, dimethyltryptamine (DMT), ayahuasca, 5-MeO-DMT, and mescaline – each of which occurs in the natural world (except for LSD, which is a semi-synthetic compound).
While working at the Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M., one of the primary care physicians stated that imaging every patient prior to receiving chiropractic was not medically necessary. It was at that point I reconsidered the need for the imaging of every patient to avoid malpractice.
