Frederick M. Vogel, D.C. has designed and is distributing buttons and T-shirts with the slogan "God Bless America, Pray for Our Troops, Operation Desert Storm." Over half of the proceeds will be donated to the American Legion Family Support Network of Michigan. Dr. Vogel is encouraging retailers and service organizations to do the same.
Dr. Vogel, president of District 1 of the Michigan Chiropractic Society, states that, "Many of our patients, friends, and families are serving in the Middle East, and we're trying to help them. Many chiropractic offices are enthusiastic and will carry the buttons."

DCs Attend First International Conference on Enzyme Therapy
Chiropractors, as well as internationally renowned medical doctors and researchers, visited Klagenfurt, Austria for the First International Conference on Enzyme Therapy, sponsored by the University of Klagenfurt.
The topics discussed included: modern trends in clinical immunopathology and immunotherapy; enzyme treatment in surgery; enzyme therapy in herpes zoster; hydrolytic enzymes in the treatment of patients with HIV infections; enzyme treatment of rheumatoid arthritis; enzyme treatment of vascular disorders; and new approaches in the treatment of cancer with enzymes.
New President For FCA
The Florida Chiropractic Association (FCA) recently elected Dr. Sam Watkins as new president at their annual Winter Convention.
Dr. Watkins is past secretary and president of the Tri-County Chiropractic Society and has been on the FCA board of directors since 1987. He sits on the American Chiropractic Association's (ACA) Council on Orthopedics, the ACA Council on Roentgenology, and the ACA Council on Sports Injuries.
Dr. Watkins has been a practicing chiropractic physician in Ft. Meyers, Florida for 33 years.
AAPM to Hold Conference
The American Academy of Pain Management will hold its annual conference August 29-September 1, 1991 in Baltimore, Maryland. Sessions will be interactive and will include diagnostic and treatment methods, the role of the expert witness, and a discussion on reimbursement.

DC to Publish Article in Journal of AAMT
Roger S. Singer, D.C. will publish his article "Transcriptions and Cervical Strain" in the Journal of the American Association for Medical Transcription (JAAMT). The magazine is a national publication, and the AAMT has nearly 8,000 members.
Forty students from the International College of Chiropractic (ICC) in Osaka, Japan visited CCC's campus to attend an accelerated course in human anatomy and dissection. Koshu Okada, president of ICC, and Dr. C.S. Cleveland Jr. have scheduled another visit in May 1991.
Michael Addison, a 14th-quarter student in Life College's School of Chiropractic, is the first recipient of the joint International Chiropractors Association (ICA) and American Black Chiropractors Association (ABCA) Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to two chiropractic students.
NCC recently cancelled afternoon classes to allow students to participate in the annual Student American Chiropractic Association (SACA) Day.

Many relevant diagnostic signs are not performed deliberately by the examiner or by the patient at the examiner’s direction. They are observed as the patient reacts to their condition. Fortin’s finger sign, Minor’s sign, and Vanzetti’s sign are three examples of this principle.
Spearheaded by burgeoning scientific and clinical research literature, psychedelics have reached a level of media coverage and popular interest that has not been seen for over half a century. By “psychedelics,” we are referring to the unique class of substances that includes psilocybin (the active compound found in so-called “magic mushrooms”), LSD, dimethyltryptamine (DMT), ayahuasca, 5-MeO-DMT, and mescaline – each of which occurs in the natural world (except for LSD, which is a semi-synthetic compound).
While working at the Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M., one of the primary care physicians stated that imaging every patient prior to receiving chiropractic was not medically necessary. It was at that point I reconsidered the need for the imaging of every patient to avoid malpractice.
