President James Winterstein, D.C. has appointed Jerome McAndrews, D.C. as National College of Chiropractic's (NCC) new chancellor. He will succeed Jacob Fisher, Ph.D., who will be retiring after 15 years of service to the college on August 31, 1991. Dr. Fisher served as chancellor and chief academic officer since his appointment by Dr. Winterstein to the position in 1986.
Dr. Jerome McAndrews will hold the title of vice president for educational and clinical affairs. He joined NCC after spending eight years as the president of Palmer College of Chiropractic and seven years as a member of the board of directors for the International Chiropractic Society. He was recently elected as member of the board of directors of National Chiropractic Mutual Insurance Company (NCMIC), in addition to which he maintains a private practice with his wife, Bonnie G. McAndrews, D.C. and his son, Patrick W. McAndrews, D.C.
Dr. McAndrews is a member of the Illinois Chiropractic Society and the American Chiropractic Society. He was previously a member of the International Chiropractors Association and the American Society of Association Executives. He is also a member of the Leadership Conference Committee for the Lombard Area Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. McAndrews will assume full responsibility and authority of his new office at a time to be announced by the president. In the interim, he will work closely with Dr. Fisher to execute a smooth transition.
Many relevant diagnostic signs are not performed deliberately by the examiner or by the patient at the examiner’s direction. They are observed as the patient reacts to their condition. Fortin’s finger sign, Minor’s sign, and Vanzetti’s sign are three examples of this principle.
On Feb. 1, 2024, two more legislators – John R. Carter (R-Texas) and Robert “Bob” Good (R-Va.) – co-sponsored the Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act of 2023, bringing the co-sponsor total to 155, two more than the total achieved over the entire two-year congressional cycle in which identical legislation last appeared (2021-22).
While working at the Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M., one of the primary care physicians stated that imaging every patient prior to receiving chiropractic was not medically necessary. It was at that point I reconsidered the need for the imaging of every patient to avoid malpractice.
