Iowa Senator Visits NCMIC Headquarters

DES MOINES, Iowa - (Jan. 14, 2004) - On Thursday, December 18, NCMIC hosted a meeting with Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) on behalf of the chiropractic profession. The purpose of the meeting was to recognize the senator for his role in fighting for and passing legislation favorable to chiropractic.

Legislation expanding the chiropractic benefit under Medicare has been supported by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) for more than 10 years. Grassley, who is chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, was a major player in the passage of this bill and fought diligently to achieve this victory.

Throughout the meeting, Grassley recounted family and personal chiropractic success stories dating back to 1927 and said he was "very determined" to keep the chiropractic provision in the Medicare bill. "My family uses chiropractors," said Grassley.

In response, Dr. Louis Sportelli, NCMIC president and a chiropractor since 1962, said, "We're seeing a new era. We're seeing recognition of quality care for seniors, and we're seeing champions like Senator Grassley enthusiastically supporting the chiropractic profession. Chiropractic hasn't had many Senator Grassleys."
