Palmer College Recipient of $1,000,000 Endowment

By Editorial Staff

Where better to bestow a gift than at the founding college of the chiropractic profession? -- Dr. Monte H. Greenawalt, Aug. 10, 1991

For it is in giving that we receive
-- St. Francis of Assisi, 1181-1226

You might say Dr.

Monte H. Greenawalt began his chiropractic practice in humble surroundings: a basement office in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1948.

Most of us have dreams of great accomplishments. We seek to attain lofty goals but are brought down to earth with the weight of reality. What Dr. Monte Greenawalt envisioned for his future is unknown, but it's unlikely he foresaw a day when a foundation honoring his name, the Greenawalt Foundation for Chiropractic, would be giving a million dollar endowment to establish the Greenawalt Distinguished Chair of Professional and Business Management at Palmer College.

Dr. Greenawalt's son, Kent S. Greenawalt, president of Foot Levelers, Inc., presented the gift to Palmer College President Dr. Donald Kern at the college's homecoming banquet.

Dr. Monte Greenawalt was given a standing ovation by the more than 1,200 guests attending the banquet. He spoke to the audience of his love for chiropractic and expressed his dedication to see chiropractic grow and prosper. He stressed the importance of investing in chiropractic's future, of those within the profession giving something back to the profession.

"Palmer College has always been a leader in chiropractic education and it is my hope that this gift will help perpetuate that leadership role," Dr. Greenawalt said

Dr. Kern expressed the belief that the endowment would give Palmer the means to bring an outstanding educator in the field of business management to its faculty, and that it would "help ensure that Palmer graduates are well prepared to conduct efficient, service-oriented, and highly ethical practices upon graduation."

Dr. Kern stated that an international search will begin immediately to fill the new position.
