Radiology Fellowship Established

By Editorial Staff

The postgraduate division of the the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) announced the establishment of the Howe-Yochum Diagnostic Imaging Fellowship, the first chiropractic radiology fellowship within the profession.

The fellowship was established by Terry Yochum, D.C., D.A.C.B.R., adjunct professor of radiology at LACC and recently appointed clinical instructor of skeletal radiology at the medical school of the University of Colorado in Denver. The fellowship, sponsored in part by Eastman Kodak, will cover a two-week period and will be an annual event. The first fellowship will be offered to a resident from LACC who will study under the direction of Dr. Yochum in Denver July 29 - August 9.

Dr. Yochum named the fellowship in honor of Joseph Howe, D.C., D.A.C.B.R., who is responsible for training more chiropractic radiologists than anyone within the profession. Dr. Howe has been a prolific writer and lecturer on chiropractic radiology for over 30 years. He is past chairman of the department of radiology of LACC and National College of Chiropractic (NCC) in Lombard, Illinois. Chicago. He presently is a professor in the radiology department at LACC where he spends one day a week working with the radiology residents. Dr. Yochum is one of Dr. Howe's ex-residents from NCC.

The fellowship will reveal to the resident all aspects of diagnostic imaging, both plain films and special imaging such as bone scan, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Dr. Yochum has coordinated a detailed program of study that will give the resident significant time with radiologists. The extensive teaching file of the department of radiology at the University of Colorado Hospital, plus Dr. Yochum's private radiology teaching file will be made available to the resident for study and tutorial sessions. A certificate of completion of the fellowship program will be given through the postgraduate division of LACC.

The program is designed to be offered to a radiology resident from each chiropractic college on a rotating basis.
