FCER's Researcher of the Year

By Editorial Staff

The Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER) named William C. Meeker, D.C., M.P.H., "Researcher of the Year" at the 1991 International Conference on Spinal Manipulation (ICSM) April 12 in Arlington, Virginia. The award is emblematic of FCER's mission to recognize and honor the emerging leaders of the scientific community devoted to chiropractic research.

Dr. Meeker's contributions to the chiropractic profession have previously been recognized. From 1985-1987 Dr. Meeker received research fellowship awards from the FCER. The ICA named him one of five chiropractic researchers of the year in 1987, and the same year he was awarded "Doctor of the Year" by the Santa Clara County Chiropractic Society.

Dr. Meeker's career has centered around Palmer Chiropractic College West (PCCW)1 in Sunnyvale, California. He graduated from PCCW in 1982 and one year later joined the faculty as an assistant professor in the division of research; in 1986 Dr. Meeker was appointed associate dean of research and for the past five years has taught research methodology. In 1989 he was appointed research director; under his guidance, PCCW has been recognized as one of the top research programs at a chiropractic college. PCCW has presented Dr. Meeker with an award recognizing his efforts to "advance the image and prestige of the profession through scientific research."

Dr. Meeker is currently the president of the Consortium for Chiropractic Research, an 18-member alliance of educational institutions and professional organizations based in Sunnyvale, California.

Dr. Meeker's published research articles have appeared in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT), the Journal of Chiropractic, and the International Review of Chiropractic. Dr. Meeker is on the editorial board of both JMPT and Chiropractic Technique.

1. Palmer College of Chiropractic (PCC) Davenport, Iowa, and Palmer West (PCCW) Sunnyvale, California merged in 1991 to form Palmer Chiropractic University (PCU).
