LCCW President Meets with House Majority Leader Gephardt

By Editorial Staff

Life Chiropractic College West President Dr. Gerard Clum met briefly with House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt (D-Missouri) in San Francisco July 11. As a representative of the ICA, Dr. Clum met with Rep. Gephardt to advocate a substantial chiropractic component in national health care reform. Rep. Gephardt was in the Bay Area to address business and civic leaders at the World Trade Center.

During a discussion about the national health care bill recently passed by the House Ways and Means Committee (see "Chiropractic Gains Inclusion in House Ways & Means Committee's Health Care Reform Amendment" in July 20th issue), Dr. Clum encouraged Mr. Gephardt's support for several favorable aspects of the current version, including "any willing provider" language, the basic benefits package, and the specific inclusion of chiropractic services. "A level playing field is all consumers and providers want in the system," Dr. Clum told the congressman.

Off-Broadway Show Donates 50 Percent of Proceeds to NY Chiro. Council

"Hysterical Blindness," the hit off-Broadway musical comedy starring Leslie Jordon (of TV's "Murphy Brown," and "Hearts Afire"), playing at the new Playhouse in Soho on Vandam Street, has been donating 50 percent of every dollar sold through a special hotline to the New York Chiropractic Council.

According to the play's producer Dana Matthow, the special arrangement between "Hysterical Blindness" and the New York Chiropractic Council has been so successful, he's extending the offer through the end of August. "We have them laughing so hard down at the Playhouse on Vandam, some of our patrons might just need a chiropractor when they leave the theater," said Mr. Matthow.

Chiro. Float Wows 4th of July Parade-Goers in NJ

Drs. Luis and Jane Mizraji's chiropractic float won first prize in the Montclair, New Jersey 4th of July parade. The nearly 30-foot float depicted eight human vertebrae who swayed to the left and right until they aligned themselves and sang, "My spine is in line, I feel fine ... Hooray, hooray for the vertebrae!"

The doctors rode atop the float, along with their sons and the office staff. Dr. Jayne Mizraji and the float were featured on the local ABC affiliate news program.
