Councils on Chiropractic Education International Formed

BRUSSELS, Belgium -Representatives from the U.S. Council on Chiropractic Education; the Australasian Council on Chiropractic Education; the Council on Chiropractic Education-Canada; and the European Council on Chiropractic Education met in Brussels in July to form the Councils on Chiropractic Education International (CCEI).

The objectives of the CCEI are to improve worldwide standards of chiropractic education, and to make its services and expertise available to leaders of chiropractic education everywhere. The CCEI seeks to develop opportunities for accreditation of chiropractic education programs in countries where none exist, and aid and recognize new accreditation agencies that implement the CCEI standards and other qualification requirements.

Biofreeze and Logan Team up for Scholarships
CHESTERFIELD, MO - Performance Health, the makers of Biofreeze pain-relieving gels and lotions, in conjunction with Logan Chiropractic College, has launched the Biofreeze scholarship program.
On June 16, 2001, Perry Isenberg, vice president of marketing for Biofreeze, awarded the first scholarships to six Logan Chiropractic College students: Kim Carpenter; Kelly Miller; John Razzaro; Michael Tremba; Kristy Ward; and Ben Watson.
"Biofreeze is going into its 10th year of business, and we felt that a nice way of giving back was student scholarships," explained Mr. Isenberg. "We are honored to be in the health care market, and proud that we are able to help the students."

Life West Supplies 200 Backpacks to Needy Students
HAYWARD, CA - For the fifth straight year, the students, staff and faculty of Life Chiropractic College West collected new backpacks for local kids returning to school. Life's BACKpack Drive was held in conjunction with the school supply drive of the Family Emergency Shelter Coalition (FESCO). Life collected new backpacks for kids 5-18 years old, while civic organizations and local businesses donated school supplies to accompany the packs.
"This event is designed to minimize the financial stress that can occur at back-to-school time for FESCO families who are struggling," explained FESCO Executive Director Nancy Schluntz. "Parents and children from pre-kindergarten to college are very grateful for this much-needed assistance."
FESCO provides shelter, counseling, food and instruction to needy families in the community it shares with Life West, and has worked closely with the college in recent years concerning health care, food distribution, and the America Reads program.

Cleveland Chiropractic College Recognized by Department of Education
KANSAS CITY, MO - The United States Department of Education recently granted Cleveland Chiropractic College (CCC) an "Office of Student Financial Assistance E-Commerce" award for its outstanding processing of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) nationwide for the first quarter of the 2001-2002 award year.
The college had the greatest percentage of students completing the FAFSA on line (88.67 percent). The award was presented at a meeting of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators in Nashville, Tennessee on July 21.
"Financial aid makes it possible for many students to reach their dreams of becoming health care professionals," said CCC President Carl Cleveland III. "Providing convenient website access is an efficient way to make the transition easier for students and for potential students to achieve their career goals."

Bank Holidays Keep British DCs Busy
A day off work can apparently be hazardous to many people's health. The British Chiropractic Association (BCA) reports that its members see an additional 4,500 patients immediately following a "bank holiday."
The BCA attributes the "disease" to driving, shopping, engaging in sports, even relaxing.
In an article on the website of the BBC, Tim Hutchful, spokesman for the BCA, noted: "It is often the most common and unexpected of bank holiday activities that can cause the most problems," citing a litany of seemingly innocuous ways of developing neck and back pain: long road trips; sleeping in guest beds with unfamiliar pillows and mattresses; sunbathing in a prone position; or merely carrying a child on one's back.
